A pressure washer with a 3000 psi and a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm) is needed to wash concrete. You may need more power if you want to get rid of tire marks, paint, and such. You need the pressure and the flow both working together to make it work. If you have the pressure but not the flow then you may loosen the mud but not have enough flow to push it along. Error on the the high side of gallons per minute. Some experts say even 5-6 gpm is needed for tough jobs. On vertical surfaces, gravity will help you so you may not need as much gpm.
Wheel-Mounted Power Washers Make Sense To Clean Flat Areas Fast
Wheel-mounted pressure washers resemble lawnmowers a bit. They use nozzles mounted on spinning bars. Power-washing wands can clean roughly 900 square feet in an hour where wheel-mounted pressure washers can clean 3,000 square feet per hour. They are also easier to use if the projects last more than an hour.
Should Hot or Cold Water Be Used to Clean Concrete?
Cold-water power washers are cheaper, lighter, and simpler to use than hot-water units. A cold-water unit may cost $2,000 and weigh 200 pounds, a comparable hot-water unit often will cost more than $3,000 and weigh more than 400 pounds. Cold water units are good for removing dirt and smaller residential jobs.
Hot water cleans faster than cold water. Most commercial jobs require hot water pressure washing units because they reduced labor costs over time which more than pays for the added initial expense. Hot water units are especially needed when it comes to cleaning oil and grease.
